[Bookplate] A lion rampant holding a stemmed (slipped) rose above the entwined letters G or C and H, through which is woven a banner with the Latin phrase. The bookplate is rendered in some kind of red ink, which is raised from the paper both from embossing (visible on the back) and a way that the ink itself is raised from the paper. 2. [Bookplate for William Hulme] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, parted per cross. Quarters one and four are parted per pale, with dexter half argent (silver) and sinister half with a barry of eight argent and vert (green). The quarters are charged with two bendlets, one invected. Quarters two and three are argent, parted per chevron, charged with two chaplets and a lion's head erased, two over one. Above the escutcheon is a viscount crown, without the cap or fur, and above the crown is a helmet, positioned in three-quarters profile, indicating the status of peer. Above the helmet is a straight wreath, charged with a cock with a heraldric rose, standing upon a trumpet. Elaborate mantling and banner containing Latin motto radiates out from the helmet, and two elephants support the shield. The elephant at dexter is charged with another heraldic rose, and the elephant at sinister is charged with another chaplet. Below the shield is a banner, with name of bookplate owner. 3. [Bookplate for Union des Commis-Marchands] Text is printed in a numbered list, surrounded by a line border resembling chain. 4. [Bookplate for Seeli Armitage-Stanley and Earl Spencer] In black ink on white paper, this heraldic bookplate consists of an Escutcheon quartered per cross and incorporates aspects of both the Armitage and the Stanley family crests. The dexter chief and sinister base sections are drawn from the Stanley crest and contain an azure (blue) garter, which holds three stag's head caboshed, on argent (silver). The sinister chief and dexter base quarters, taken from the Armitage crest, are gules (red) with three crosslets argent, two in chief and one in base, and a lion's head in fess. The helm consists of two helmets, to signify the incorporation of the two families, and is surrounded by mantling. Above the helm there is a small banner bearing the Armitage family motto, 'semper paratus.' Below the Escutcheon is another banner bearing the motto of the Stanley family, 'sans changer.'. 5. [Bookplate for Robert Edward Lord Petre] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a simple bend, or (gold), charged with two escallop at dexter base and sinister chief. The escutcheon is charged with an inescutcheon at center, divided per cross. Quarter one is gules, with a simple bend, argent (silver), charged with six cross crosslet fitched. Quarter two is gules, charged with three lions. Quarter three is chequy, azure (blue) and argent. Quarter four is gules, charged with a lion rampant. Above the entire escutcheon is a coronet denoting the rank of baron, and supporting the escutcheon at dexter and sinister are two lions rampant reguardant. Beneath the escutcheon s a banner, with Latin motto within, and below motto the bookplate owner's name and title. Background of crest is azure. 6. [Bookplate for Robert A. Harrison] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features a demi-lion rampant on the top part of a castle tower. The lion is wearing a crown and holding a floral wreath in its paws. There is a gentlemen and esquire’s helm surrounded by elaborately curling sable and argent mantling that extends out to each side and tapers down to the base of the bookplate. Shield is sable and charged with three demi-lions rampant, two over one. The lions are wearing crowns. The motto is below the shield printed in capitalized block white letters on a banner with curling ends. The bookplate owner’s name is printed in black, gothic sentence-case font at the bottom of the bookplate. 7. [Bookplate for Pierre Louis Deschenaux] The bookplate has a border of small bows surrounding the text. The majority of the text is in a bold serif font, and the word “Quebec” is in italics. 8. [Bookplate for Oeuvre des Bons Livres de Montreal] Printed in black ink on cream paper, an intricate border evocative of a tabernacle and constructed of geometric repeating patterns topped with a cross surrounds the text. Above the text is a symbol featuring a cannon and two flags. 9. [Bookplate for Mary Katharine Black by Thoreau MacDonald] This pictorial engraving was created using black ink on white paper and portrays an island with two wind-swept trees with a rising/setting sun on the horizon. 11. [Bookplate for Mark Rowe by W. J. B.] In brown ink on thick paper, the Latin motto sits above swags of maple leaves and flowers which surround a shield with the stylized initials, M.R., located in the centre of the bookplate. 12. [Bookplate for Joseph Bewley] This non-traditional heraldic bookplate consists of a tilted argent (silver) escutcheon with a sable (black) chevron. On the escutcheon are three bird heads, erased, two over one. Atop the shield is an unusually large helmet in profile, topped by a twig with leaves, a crest wreath, and a stag head, erased. From the helmet flows mantling. Above and below the image are banners containing the text. The image and banners are set upon a designed background and framed by a double border. 13. [Bookplate for John Leeds Bozman] This bookplate consists of an argent (silver) escutcheon with a gules (red) fess. On the escutcheon are three sable (black) eagles, displayed, two over one. Raised above the shield on floral mantling is a curved crest wreath, and a perched cockatrice. Below the shield is a banner containing the Latin motto. 14. [Bookplate for John Lechmere] This heraldic bookplate consists of an escutcheon, gules (red), with a fess, or (gold). Above the fess at dexter and sinister chief, the escutcheon is charged with two birds, possibly pelicans, wings addorsed and inverted. Above the escutcheon is a ducal crown without a cap, which is charged with the same bird, wings addorsed and inverted. Below the escutcheon is a banner, with Latin motto inside. 15. [Bookplate for J. W. Longley by Francis Adams Sc.] Black ink on white paper. The crest features an arm grasping a dagger. The blade of the dagger has pierced the head of a bearded man that resembles a lion head. The arm is atop a crest-wreath. The wreath sits on a flower with a round center and 5 petals. To strips extend out of the flower across the front and back of a ribbon, connecting to the top of the shield. The ribbon extends straight out with curling ends. The motto is printed on the ribbon in black, capitalized, serif font. Shield is ermine with a black bend. Bend charged with three cheetah heads. The shield features a sinister canton paly. Underneath the shield, the bookplate owner’s name is printed in large, black, sentence case, gothic font. More text is printed below the name in smaller, black, capitalized, serif font. 16. [Bookplate for Ian Waldie by Alexander Scott Carter] In black ink on white paper, a sailboat at sea with a fish depicted in the waves below. Three seagulls are flying around the boat. A wide, bold floral border surrounds the image of the ship, with a few books and a lyre above it. 17. [Bookplate for Harry M. Allice] In black ink. A picture of "The Thinker," a bronze and marble sculpture by the French artist Auguste Rodin, outlined in white and shadowed. "EX LIBRIS" above, the quote beside, and the name boxed below the sculpture. 18. [Bookplate for Gamble Geddes] Black ink on cream paper. Crest features half a fish hauriant showing a fin, gills, and a head with teeth atop a crest-wreath. Sable shield charged with three of the aforementioned fish heads two over one and an argent insecutcheon. There is a ribbon-like banner with the motto below the shield with curling ends. Each side of the ribbon is angled towards a downward point. On the left side is text in capitalized black serif-font. The right side of the ribbon overlaps the left and has text in the same font. Below the motto, the owner’s name is written in curling sentence-case font. 19. [Bookplate for Florence Bailey Swift] This elaborate bookplate, in black ink, consists of an escutcheon, or (gold), containing a chevron, vair of argent (silver) and azure (blue), and charged with three stags, springing (or courant) and vert (green), two over one. The escutcheon is surrounded by an elaborate bordure, and topped by a dexter closed helmet. Atop the helmet is a curved crest wreath and an arm embowed, habited, holding four arrows. From either side of the helmet flows elaborate mantling, or and azure. Below the escutcheon is a banner containing the Latin motto. 20. [Bookplate for Evans Bros.] Black ink on cream paper. At the top of the bookplate sits the title and address of the library. Beneath this is a header for the library rules, written in Germanic font. Beneath this section sits a horizontal dividing line, followed by the five individual rules and policies. This section is divided into two columns. On the left are headers for each type of rule or policy, and on the right sits the body of each.
